What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.
– John Steinbeck
When I first moved to Toronto, what awaited for me was this huge blanket of white snow around me. I was living on the 16th floor of an apartment and while I was under the mandatory 14 day quarantine, I would often admire the snowfall from my balcony, briefly step out to feel the snow fall on my palms and quickly step inside. THEN, after quarantine, when I started stepping outside, I could feel the actual cold and wind sometimes biting my fingertips. I had mixed feelings about the whole transition. I missed the sunshine and warmth SO MUCH.
Then, slowly I started to see rainfall, and it began the onset of spring. Beautiful flowers blooming around me . . . Trees starting to have tiny little leaves. Neighbors busy with gardening and planting flowers of all kinds. The grass at parks getting greener ❤ I fell in love with spring.
My friends from North America and else where who had visited Canada in summers would tell me… “Wait till you get to see Canadian summer”. I did not know what the hype was all about, initially . . . But now, I get it! Summer here is beautiful and magnificent ❤ I still wear a light sweater when I step outside, but it is so pleasant. There are these huge parks around me, where I just go and admire how beautiful the scenic beauty is around me.
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.
Sometimes I’ll lie on the grass and just relax, take pictures of the park, flowers, selfies of all kinds, watch the sunset . . . The list is long! Oh did I tell you, the days here are super LONG. Even at 9 pm, it feels like its 5 pm! So its quite amazing that way to get to experience my first summer season here. I go around different parks in my neighborhood. My favorite one is a lake park, which has a small pond/ lake with fishes, turtles and ducks. Sometimes, I’ll treat myself with a Tim Hortons XL Hot Chocolate with Almond milk (not 100% vegan, but its a beautiful treat!). Infact, I grew so addicted to it, that I decided to get Cacao powder myself, so I can DIY in a much healthier and cheaper way 😛
Just wanted to express my gratitude and joy for this beautiful season and everything I get to experience here.
Much love xx ❤
